WOW on St. Patrick’s Day
St. Patrick’s Day WOW at Squaw Valley titled “Pot Pourri” was exactly that! From firm in the morning to slush in the pm, we had all sorts of snow to ski. The WOW team comprised of NORCAL Alliance members Julie, Fran and El led the women up KT22 and up the mountain in the bright California sunshine.

We topped off the WOW adventure with a couple of hikes up Mainline Pocket where the women who braved the hike were rewarded with some awesome spring snow that skied like butter.

These women are inspiring … love skiing with all of them!!

K2 NorCal Ski Day at Northstar

A sunny, warm day at Northstar welcomed our group as we gathered for another morning of skiing, tips & good laughs!
The 2nd K2 NorCal Ski Day was another big success & brought more incredible women together for turns & a good cause. Thank you to everyone who joined us today…we are so appreciative your time and energy AND donations!

Bobo’s Ski & Board (www.bobos.com) was on hand to provide K2 demos and our “base camp” area. The Bobo’s staff is AWESOME! Joe, Pat, Lynette, Deborah, Sarah & Mary were super organized as they handled registration, donations, and demos for the participants. Bobo’s also added a $500 donation to our pool for the Breast Cancer Research Foundation…amazing! We can’t thank them enough for their enthusiasm and support with the day. And another shout out to the Northstar crew: THANKS! Everyone at Northstar is always so helpful and friendly. It’s like visiting Disneyland.

Deborah, Sarah, Pat & Lynette….the amazing Bobo’s crew! Yes, it was a K2 day, so please pay no mind to the other logos that made their way onto this post

Cara and her winning “THINK PINK” outfit! Sorry that your hoodie prize isn’t pink too!

Birthday girl Leigh Piernini (right) was serenaded by the whole group!

K2 Visits Maryland

Wet but happy!
Rain, rain go away! Saturday, March 13 Big Pink did it’s dance from Rudy’s at Wisp Resort in Deep Creek Maryland. The week previous had been beautiful – bluebird skies, warm temps over firm snow with a nice soft cushion due to over 260 inches that as fallen here this season. As luck would have it, rain came in to make that Saturday a most undesirable ski day to most, so not only were there no crowds, there were no skiers at all! Late season plus rain made skiers stay away, too bad for them because the skiing was still good, and the Traveling Lotta Luv was at its best in these conditions. I had a great time with it, and so did the ladies that got to give it a try. Hope to see you next year, same time, same place!

Early March Powder & Still Coming In
A hike to the Palisades at Squaw Valley was in order on this blue bird day after a ton of early March powder fell, making the hike one of the easiest in my memory. Check it out with Lake Tahoe in the background and even husband Jeff hiking along. With a great base already in place, the Lotta Luvs proved bombproof heading down the Kitchen Wall.

AND … it’s dumping as I write this. AWESOME!! More powder. Head up to Tahoe … tomorrow promises to be ANOTHER (one of many this season) POW morning.

WOW on Powder

March 3, 2010 was another awesome WOW (Women of Winter) Session at Squaw Valley, led by Norcal Regional Alliance Members Julie Matises and Fran Tone. And no, there’s nothing wrong with the photograph – that’s snow (lots of it) captured on film. Themed “On the Edge of Squaw,” this session turned into “on the edge of our comfort zone” as powder dumped all morning and visibility remained marginal. Bump troughs were filled with bump tops barely hidden under the new-fallen snow. The snow was so deep and fluffy, face shots were in order just by skiing through the troughs. We had Phat Luvs, Lotta Luvs and even one Hardside out there – didn’t really matter …. were those giggles we heard? … Yup – definitely.

Custom WOW’s Empowering Women
Can’t make that women’s program at your favorite ski resort because you have a business trip, board meeting, parent-child conference or a dental appointment? That’s where the Custom WOW (Women of Winter) comes in. Squaw Valley’s WOW program allows women to schedule their own program on the day they can make it. This past week was about Custom WOW’s at Squaw — three of them to be exact. Women got together and arranged their own program that suited their schedule. February 24, 2010 were women who just couldn’t wait another week for a scheduled WOW – they are just having too much fun!

February 25, 2010 were women on their annual ski trip who learned to rip Squaw Valley.

And February 26, 2010 were women who just couldn’t get enough of WOW and some who needed a day closer to a weekend (sorry no photo) … but they ripped up difficult snow conditions with “immature snow” falling. Despite low vis, we still had a great time and managed to end the WOW with two sweet runs in 75 Chute. Way to go ladies!

Traveling Skis Heads to New Mexico!
The Traveling Skis arrived in New Mexico along with huge storm. Thirty-four inches of down snow fell in Taos over the last three days, and the skis handled it beautifully. From soft intermediate bumps to off piste face shots, every lady that skied them came back smiling! As we ship them out to their next destination, the sun is coming our and the bluebird skies are back!
